Assateauge Island, MD

Assateague Island is about a half hour away from the Pocomoke River State Park where we went camping over Memorial Day weekend.

The kids loved playing in the waves....

especially Kaden.

Kaylee loved playing in the sand and...

collecting sea shells. Here she is cleaning them.

Kaden had fun digging a big hole in the sand with Geoff's help.

I enjoyed watching this little girl turn her dad into a cone head. :)

Assateague Island is known for their wild horses. We saw several walking all over the island. We had fun driving around looking for them. This was Kaden's favorite part of the whole trip. It might have been mine too.

These ones were hanging out by the beach.

We also saw a few hanging out in a parking lot.

This deer was walking along the side of the road.

We stopped by the visitors center on the way to the beach. They had a hands on aquarium. Geoff held up a Horseshoe crab for the kids.

We also stopped by the bay side to fly kites and walk around. I would highly recommend Assateague Island. We all LOVED it!

How fun! I think it rivals our trip. Sea shells. I've only been to the beach a hand full of times, but there never seem to be many whole seashells. I'm impressed. And then there's the wild horses, kites, etc. We may have to visit the east coast next.

Ummm...that deer had a collar on. Are you sure it was in the wild? Looks like a great time. We miss the beach, and really miss you guys. We wish we could make a return trip to the east coast this summer.
