Summers Farm Adventure

A few weekends ago we took the kids to Summers Farm in Frederick, Md. It is a one hour drive away from where we live. It was a beautiful day and we all had a lot of fun.

There were lots of activities for the kids. They had slides, an apple cannon, a jumping pillow, a playground, a rubber duck derby, a few mazes, pedal cars, a pumpkin train, and a corn pit. The kids were in heaven running from one activity to the next.

We watched some pig races, fed goats, and saw chickens, sheep, pigs, a miniature horse, and a few other animals.

We went through this Redskins corn maze.

Before we left we took a hayride to a pumpkin patch. Kaden had fun looking for the perfect pumpkin. I think this was his favorite part of the day. We also enjoyed a picnic lunch and tried their apple cider donuts, they were delicious!! This was the best fall festival/farm place we have been to.

Fort McHenry

Last weekend was Star Spangled Banner weekend at Fort McHenry. I have always wanted to watch a battle reenactment so I begged Geoff to take us.

Here are some pictures of the fort.

The fort overlooks the Patapsco River.

There were several ships out that day.

There were tents and displays out all over the grounds of Fort McHenry for the Star Spangled Banner celebration.

We watched these soldiers march by on their way to the field where they performed the battle reenactment.

We watched them shoot rifles.

We also watched a canon shot several times. The kids both complained that it was too loud but Geoff and I both enjoyed it.

I loved these ladies. Maybe it is because I can picture myself joining a group like this when I am older. :)

Before we left we watched a video about the history of the war in 1812. At the end of the video they opened a curtain so that we could see the flag outside by the fort and then they play the Star Spangled banner.

Maryland Renaissance Festival

Last weekend we met some of our good friends at the Maryland Renaissance Festival. I have been looking forward to it all year.

There are several people and entertainers that walk around the village. A lot of people who attend the festival also come dressed up.

We watched a jousting tournament. Every time this man held up this sign we were all suppose to yell huzzah! The kids loved cheering.

The show was fun to watch.

Kaylee and her friends were excited to go on the pony rides.

Kaden and his friend Jake thought they were too cool for pony rides. However, once we got towards the front of the line they changed their minds and joined in. :)

This nice man let Kaylee try out his harp.

Kaden and his friend Jake both bought wooden swords. Kaden couldn't wait to get home to paint his. He loves his sword. :)

The kids had fun playing on this pirate ship and on a playground in the kids play area.

They also went down a big slide. Kaylee was nervous to go so her friend said she could ride with her. They came down laughing and wanting to go again. Kaden went down it with his friend too.

We watched some archery.

We tried juggling at the free juggling school.

The kids watched this Princess and the Frog show. It didn't get very good reviews. :)

I shared this cheesecake on a stick dipped in dark chocolate with Kaylee. It was delicious!! Whenever I think about it I start craving it. :)


Kaden posed for this picture and Kaylee wanted to get in it too. If you look closely you will see her hand in the arm hole. :)

My friend took a family picture for us on our way out. We all had a lot of fun and will definitely be going back next year if we are still here.

Back to School Parties

I hosted a back to school party at Watkins Park. Here is a group shot of the kids.

We played picture bingo and had a water balloon toss.

We had a picnic lunch. Kaden loves to eat his sandwiches from the middle out. I think he takes pride in being a messy eater. We are working on this.

After our picnic we headed over to the nature center. I love how the kids always hold hands. :)

The kids counted 16 frogs on the lily pads.

Inside of the nature center the kids found a little play room area. Kaylee and her friends were pretending to be puppies and another one of her friends was the owner.

After the nature center we walked across the street to the Old Maryland Farm.

Kaden and his friend Caleb walked around the farm together. I couldn't resist taking a picture. They looked so cute walking around with their arms around each other. :)

The kids were excited to find ducks out walking around this visit.

Kaylee loved watching the bunny dig a hole and waited patiently for it to come back out. We had a great time with our friends. Unfortunately the back to school teacher meet and greet ended up being scheduled for the same afternoon. We had to leave before the kids could have a water fight or go on a train ride.

Our new friends also hosted a back to school party at their house. We had a pot luck lunch and the kids had a blast playing with their friends in the pool and on the trampoline.

We had a fun summer and are sad to see it come to an end. We are looking forward to the fall though and some cooler weather. The kids are also excited to get back to school and see their friends again.
