Last weekend we took a tour of the the US Capitol. They just opened a new visitors center this month. The tours start out with a 13 minute movie. After the movie they hand out headphones so that you can hear your tour guide and block out the other noise since there are several tours going on at once. The Capitol is an amazing building. It was my first time being inside and I couldn't have been more impressed.
This statue is the cast they used for the bronze statue of freedom that currently sits on top of the Capitol. This is in the visitors center. Our tour guide told us this is currently the largest statue in DC. It is 19' and 6" tall.
This is a statue of Brigham Young inside of the Capitol. Each state has chosen two statues to display inside of the capitol.
This is a painting on the ceiling of the dome inside of the rotunda. If you click to enlarge the picture you might be able to see that George Washington is the only man in the circle. If you are interested in the meaning click HERE to read about this painting.

I found this picture on line. It shows the lower walls of the rotunda.
This is another view of the top of the dome in the rotunda.
A picture of Kaden inside of the rotunda.
Inside the Capitol.
Inside of the old Supreme Court room. This room is no longer used for anything except for tours.
There is a tunnel connecting the Capitol to the Library of Congress so after our tour of the Capitol we walked over the the Library of Congress.
This building is amazing. We were able to look down into the library but were not allowed to take pictures. You have to obtain a special pass to go inside.
Here is a view from the inside.
Here is their Christmas tree. Every time we visit DC we get a strong feeling of patriotism. I love our country and I am thankful for the opportunity that we have to be living so close the it's capitol.

Thanks Jadi, hope you're having a nice holiday!
Wow! I would love to go to D.C. Maybe we will just have to take a little trip out to visit you guys!
You did a great job capturing the how beautiful the Capitol is. It's been years and years since I've been there, but your post made me want to go back! Glad you guys had a good time.
What a fun tour! I'll have to put that on our list.
I use to do research at the Library of Congress for a job I had. It was amazing! (But I wasn't allowed to take pictures either.)
What a fun family tour! You do such fun things with your family!!
Great pictures. I would LOVE to be able to see all of the amazing sites in D.C. If you stay there long enough maybe we could afford to come see you. I mean, you planned on living there until Rick is retired and the kids are all out of the house, right? I feel like that will be the next time I will get a vacation with my husband!
