Last Saturday I took the kids to Dinosaur Park in Laruel, MD. The park recently opened to the public in October, 2009. It is open to the public from noon-4 pm twice a month. You can go and help paleontologists look for dinosaur bones and fossils. This is the only park that allows the public to help this side of the Mississippi River. Most of the parks west of the Mississippi River don't allow children to help search because they have to use tools. This area can be surface cleaned because of the clay.

They start out by giving you a brief history of the dinosaurs that have been found in Maryland and then show you samples of some of the fossils that have been found so that you will know what you are looking for. If you are lucky enough to find something then you will get your name listed as the finder. A half hour before we got there a lady found a dinosaur bone that will be displayed at the Smithsonian. They also display some fossils at the Maryland Science Center.

The kids couldn't wait to start looking.

Here is the rest of the group that was looking with us.

We didn't find any fossils this time but Kaylee was excited to find a piece of ironstone.

Oh my, you have been busy with some really FUN things! Every comment I make seems to be about how big Kaden and Kaylee are getting, but it is true. I can't believe that it has only been a year since I have seen them. They look so grown-up. Too cute.
We love Kaylee's rock, but LOVE Kayden's look more...as always, you guys have been doing some fun stuff. We didn't even know there were fossils in Maryland.
How awesome! I've never even heard of this place. Looks amazing.
Interesting fun stuff!
