A Drive-In Movie Night

The concession Stand.

Decorating the cars.

Buying the treats and a ticket to the movie.

In their cars ready to watch the movie.

We have a great arrangement with our friends. Once a month we watch each others kids so that we can go out on a date. Our kids get along really well. So not only do we enjoy going out but our kids get equally as excited to go over to their friend's house. This last weekend my kids helped me create a drive-in movie party. We asked our guests to bring their pillows and blankets. When they arrived I had them decorate their cars with markers. They drew radios, steering wheels, and whatever else they wanted to put on their cars. I created a concession stand. I gave each of the kids an envelope with 7 pretend dollars. I had them stand in line and welcomed each child. They had to buy a ticket to the movie with one of the dollars and then were able to pick out 6 treats with the remaining money. Everything was $1. After they all had their treats and were in their box cars I went around and had them put their tickets into a ticket box. Then I welcomed them to the movie and told them to enjoy the show.

The next night it was our turn to go out. Harrison (8 years old) and Marlie (6 years old) put together a Dr. Suess party for our kids. They asked my friend Esther to make green eggs and ham for dinner. They watched The Cat in the Hat, made some homemade goo, and played a game. Harrison even gave each of the kids some pretend money and let them pick some of his toys to keep from his room. How cute is that!

I love the drive-in movie idea. That would be a lot of fun for a birthday party too or family movie night. To make it realistic - you should have had the popcorn costing $5.

Jadi
Like always, the kids had a blast at one of your "always fun" parties. I think it was funny that Harrison and Marlie wanted to try and do something like you. Thanks for going out of your way to make the kids have a good time.

Yet another fun idea! I think I'll try this one when my boys are old enough to have sleepovers. You are such a hardworking mom. What a lucky family you have.
